This book was simply a brilliant read. If you are fascinated by cultures different to your own, as I am, and intrigued by lifestyles beyond your imagination, then this is the book for you. It tells of life in Afghanistan through troubled times through the eyes of the ordinary people there. It is filled with emotion and has you glued to each and every page. It took me just over a day to read it, not being able to put it down for long, only pausing to eat and reluctantly sleep. You become attached to the two female central characters and find yourself heartbroken with them when they face very trying times and yet so hopeful for them as the future brightens for Afghanistan. If you buy only one book this summer, buy this one.

A riveting and powerful story of an unforgiving time, an unlikely friendship and an indestructible love

This book was amazing it has really changed my views. It was also emotional to think that Afghan women really live like this. I think it is a definite must read.

I thought The Kite Runner was good, but this exceed all expectations. A powerful, thought provoking book, not for the faint- hearted.

I debate which of Hosseini's books I preferred, however this was a great read, I simply loved Maryum's character, and found Leila to be a tad selfish to allow Maryum to end the way she did.
Highly rated, a must have, as after reading a copy from the library, I purchased a copy to add to my personal library.
The only down side is that Hosseini hasn't released any further reads after The Kite runner and A Thousand splendid suns.
However thats a total 5 from me.

five stars ten stars not enough stars to rate this most wonderful of books in fact its spoilt me because nothing can compare

Usually I'll put down a book after a certain amount of time and read more the next day. However "A Thousand Splendid Suns" really got to me... I couldn't put it down! Although, at times I did struggle to feel what the characters were feeling because it's written in thrid person, but maybe that's just me! I think that absolutley everyone should read this book!!
