I have always been a fan of Jo Brand, ever since I first indulged in some of her sarcastically entertaining comedy. I bought this book for my main summer holiday read; saving what I thought would be the best for last. Don't panic just yet, I know the introduction sounds bad, but there is more.
Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy reading it, however was somewhat dissapointed. While there were some moments where I actually did laugh out loud, attracting confused and annoyed glances from my fellow pool-side loungerers, for a comedian I was surprised that a lot of topics wern't tackled with Jo's usual sarcastic manner. Whether or not I had too-higher hopes is up for debate, and I am willing to say that is probably the likely source of my dissapointment upon closing the book. All the same, the fact that I didn't throw the book back into my suitcase and move onto something else is a clear sign that the book had enough going for it, that I loyally returned to it each day. I would reccomend this for fans of Jo Brand, as it was an interesting read, and is one that ticks along nicely. However if you're not a fan, I would definately reccomend to look for something else. |
